Why Are Green Buildings Important?

At first glance you might ask “why are green buildings so important?”, after all, it could cost a considerable amount of money to make a building green, so is it worth it?

A green building isn’t just an investment you make to help the environment or to comply with regulations, green buildings also help you save money and increase productivity.

To fully answer the question, “why are green buildings important?”, I’ve split the answer into three parts:

1. The environmental benefits of a green building.
2. The economical benefits of a green building.
3. Social benefits of a green building.

In the U.S. alone, buildings account for 68% of total electricity use, 30% of landfill waste, 38% of pollution, and 12% of total water consumption.

Due to the growth and development of our communities, it’s hard to drive through a city, without seeing some kind of construction taking place. More buildings equal more pollution and more costs.

Today there are more than 68,000 green buildings in the U.S., every new green building we build helps balance and offset the negative impact buildings have on our environment.

What is a Green Building?

A green building is a building that, through its design, construction, and operation, reduces or eliminates its impact on the environment. Some green buildings can create a positive impact on the environment and climate.
